Smoky Beef and Bean Skillet Chili

Brown the beef in a heavy pot and let it actually sear before draining off extra fat.

Add the onion and bell pepper and cook until soft, then stir in the garlic and tomato paste and let the paste darken a bit.

Add the chili powder, cumin, cocoa, salt, and pepper and toast the spices for about 30 seconds.

Add the crushed tomatoes, beans, and 1 cup of water. Simmer uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes until it thickens.

Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving so it tightens up a little.
